Lagginhorn Südgrat

Lagginhorn Südgrat

Location Saas-Fee, Wallis
Date of the climb
August 06, 2016
Character high-altitude alpine ridge climb
Popularity low to average
Difficulty AD, III+
Height gain ~1100 (total) m height gain + descent, ~12 km vert. dist.
Conditions stable weather, icy ridge, -5 °C
Protection 3x slings or bolds to abseil
Material (for soloing) 15 m rope, 2x 120 cm slings, 2x HMS
Remarks long and in parts very exposed ridge climb; mostly easy climbing up to III+, but since many rock spire must be passed, the climb is longer than it might seem based on guide books. The rock is (mostly) good, if you stay on the ridge or slightly below it. I climbed it solo without major difficulties and self-belayed on exposed sections.
